Opening Day Set
May 21st, 2005
CHILI, NY--
It's been a long winter for all of the SNS players. A well anticipated season opener is set for tomorrow afternoon with Panchos Ranchos looking to turn around a disapointing season last year as they face their rivals team GCA. Panchos Ranchos will be looking for a steller game from Tim Story on the hill as GCA counters with rookie Frank Battaglia who will be making his first SNS career start on the mound. "I think my arm is ready to go for tomorrow" Frank said after team practice late Satrurday. "I know my team will expect a good game from me and I won't have any butterflies facing some of the PR power-hitters."
In the off season, Chris Maggioli was released from the GCA franchise and was quickly aquired by the Panchos Ranchos. Chris is now the manager of the Ranchos and has high hopes this summer. "I think I am just what the team needs to turn the team around" Chris said. Chris is likley to fill the spot of Chris Scarbrough, now with team GCA, at short-stop. Last year with GCA, Chris was a a crutial part of the GCA defense at short and was a clutch hitter when needed.
Repots from the GCA team office say they are likley to field only 7 for tomorrow's game due to previous comittments from Jason Hantes, Sean McGrain, and Tyler Mars. RJ Walker has been called up from the minor leagues to fill a empty space on the roster for tomorrow. Anthony York's fate for tomorrow is still unknown along with Matt Jones. The team wants to let the league know they will have enough to play with tomorrow and there will be no need for a postponment of the season opener. "We are not used to being in this situation" manager Andrew Reynolds said when questioned. "We only need 9 players on our roster because we know how comitted our players are and wouldn't miss a game without a good reason."
Sean McGrain is south of the Mason Dixon Line in Maryland this week leaving a huge hole in GCA's outfield alignment. "It will be interesting to see how they configure their defense tomorrow" Anthony Perrone said. "It may end up being a field-day for our offense tomorrow which desperately needs to come through" Perrone told reporters.
Tomorrow's weather will be a change from what many were used to last summer. Forcasters call for a mostly cloudy sky with temperatures running in the mid 50's with light northerly winds for the first pitch. The SNS players are ready for any weather. "I'll just have to wear some extra long john's" Chris Scarbrough commented when asked how he will prepare for the seasonably cool weather.
The season is set to commence tomorrow at 4:30pm EDT. Good seats still available. Tickets are still on sale and can be purchased through ticketmaster.com or at the field box office.
