Preseason Blows In
May 15th 2005,
CHILI, NY--
Sunday Night Softball play got underway late Sunday afternoon as team GCA and Panchos Ranchos met up. It was a gusty afternoon making driving the ball and judging fly balls difficult. Panchos Ranchos brought a full 9 man team to the field while team GCA could only rally up eight.
It was a solid game for both teams. Team GCA welcomed Jason Hantes back onto the mound after a huge signing the night before. Frank Battalgia made his well awaited GCA debut. In the first inning, Hantes shutout Panchos Ranchos with allowing one man aboard. In the bottom half of the inning, GCA's offense lit up the scoreboard recording eight runs and a three run HR by Chris Scarbrough. Panchos Ranchos struggled defensivly and offensivly against Hantes on the mound. Hantes threw four steller innings allowing 5 runs and flashed his leather on the mound impressing the crowd. Due to a previous commitment, Jason had to leave after the fourth and a combined effort by Frank Battaglia and RJ Walker kept the Panchos Ranchos offense quiet. Frank Battalgia recorded his first SNS career strikeout in the 6th inning. GCA's offense showed no mercy and beat Panchos Ranchos 31-10.
"It felt great to be back on the mound today. It feels like I had never left to tell you the truth" Jason commented. "My arm felt great today and I look forward to the upcoming season." Jason Hantes helped out his own caused offensivly with a few clutch hits driving in several runs. "Manager Andrew Reynolds is looking like a genious right now by resigning the kid and should be proud of themselves for making the deal" Frank Battaglia said following the victory. "I knew we would be in trouble if we didn't have a starting pitching this season so I had to roll the dice and see if Jason wanted to play and if so for who. He told me did want to play without a doubt and wanted to come back onto our team" Reynolds told a flock of reporters after his offensivly depleated day with a HR and a few sac flys.
Matt Williams had a historic day going 9/11 and recording his first ever save in SNS. Matt came on in the top of the 9th and allowed 0 runs on 0 hits and sealed the deal. "Well I am a bit dissapointed, wanted to get at least .900 average" he said chuckling following the game. Sean McGrain had a long day in right center. "The wind was blowing across and in all afternoon making it tough to judge flyballs. I made a few errors allowing a few big runs but it's preseason and the rest of the team understands."
Tim Story pitched for Panchos Ranchos and couldn't get any support from the defense behind him. "I thought I pitched fairly well today. Ya, I left a few out over the middle of the plate and they drove a few of those deep but some miss communication in the outfield lost us the game in my opinion" Story said during the post game press conference. Tim, is looking to turn things around for the Ranchos this summer after a disapointing season last year. "I have some new pitches this year I have been working on in the off season and cannot wait to fool the GCA hitters when they are dependant on a big hit."
"The Rock" have offically been kicked out of the league due to lack of commitment and not contacting Scar at all. "They failed to show any interest to me and failed to show up today so I had no choice but to remove them from the league." League commish Scarbrough said sadley. Opening day for the 2005 season has not yet been finalized but will be within the next few weeks.
