Reynolds Steps Down as GM/Manager
June 26th, 2005 |
East Rochester, NY--
After the inaugural Sunday Night Softball season in the summer of 2004, and through four steller games this season in the summer of 2005, GCA team manager Andrew Reynolds has announced his resignation as team manager. "I didn't want to have to make this decision but being a SNS manager was affecting my personal life at home." Reynolds said. "I would like to be able to sleep in on Sunday mornings and not go through the stress of hearing people they have 'soccer games', 'graduation parties', and to have team members go camping without telling anyone close to them on the team."
The announcment of Reynolds' step down has come as a shock to many teammates of Reynolds and other SNS players. "When I read the news on ESPN.com it gave me the worse butterflies I have ever experienced" said teammate Sean McGrain.
Some critics of Reynolds are questioning the true reasoning of his departure from the top. Last season, team GCA went undefeated as they posted a perfect 7-0 record on the standings. This year, team GCA is currently 4-1 and coming off of a heart breaking game four loss. Team GCA has outscored the Hoodlums by only 8 runs total in the four games so far this season. Some of the lineups Reynolds has put together this season has raised a few eye brows. Last season, Matt Williams was a team leader in batting and on base percentage. This season so far, he's 12 for 26 and some question whether or not Reynolds is understanding the lead off posistion may not be the best spot for him. "Reynolds was under the gun for a few games now to lead the team to a old fashion routing" the left handed hitting Frank Battaglia said. "I personally could tell the anxiety was beginning to affect him."
So far this season through four games, only three members of team GCA have played in all four games. Scarbrough, Williams, and Reynolds himself are the only three on the squad who have perfect attendance so far this season. "It's tough looking at those figures and seeing you only have two other dedicated members on your team. I simply cannot take the blame anymore for not being able to come up with a team" Reynolds commented.
Last season, team GCA led the league in perfect attendance. The 2004 team only consisted of having 9 guys because all 9 showed up week in and week out. So far through the four games played this year, team GCA has used 16 different players to represent the team and are unsure if they can find enough guys to play today, June 26th.
The next step is to find someone who will fill the void left by Reynolds' leave. Sources are unsure of who will step up. "I don't mind putting in the effect to field a team but I just don't want to be the only one placing the IMs and calls anymore" Reynolds delclared. "I still want to be highly involved in the organization and I have no desire to be placed on the market for a trade. Team GCA is my home and will always be my home."
