Memorial Day Double Header

May 30th, 2005

CHILI, NY--

Memorial Day, a true American holiday. Softball, a true American sport. Sunday Night Softball was moved from Sunday to Monday afternoon in light of the great American holiday. The teams got together for a old fashioned double header. Harry's Hoodlums brought in a roster of eight along against GCA's seven man roster. GCA had to aquire three free agents to play today due to Hantes, Battaglia, Jones, Klein, and RJ being tied up with family matters. Bryan Reynolds, Mike Hickey, and Frank Cocuzzi were called up to play.

Game One -- In the first game, team GCA got out to a early 4-1 lead after the first inning. Two of those runs came home with the first swing of the afternoon from Reynolds sending it deep down the left field line for his first homerun of the season. Cocuzzi threw a solid six innings only letting up four runs against the always threatening Hoodlum offense. GCA carried a 17-4 lead into the top of the 7th where they never looked back. Both Bryan and Andrew Reynolds, Scarbrough and Hickey hit the deep ball between the 2nd and 6th innings. Jeff Kirk made it the third straight game as he hit a grand slam just out of the reach of Reynolds in the top of the 7th. Matt Williams came on in the top of the ninth to secure his first save of the year after letting up back to back shots to start off the inning. GCA held on to win 20-12.

"I gave up back to back solo homeruns in the top of the 9th and thought my day was over," said Williams. "I was afraid Reynolds was going to take me out and send in the lefty after I was blowing it." Matt Williams had an offensive depleted game. He went 0 for his first three and picked it up a little from there ending up 4-8 in the game.

Game Two -- In the night cap, both teams agreed to play seven innings due to players needing to leave for work. To keep things short, as this writer is tired after a long day of softball, GCA Ball, and secret video making, GCA over came a close game to win their 3rd game of the year 12-9.

After the second game, two interviews were conducted. Tim Story and Moose were kind enough to give a few words to reporters. Tim Story reflects on both games. Moose talks about Reynolds reaching over the fence to rob him of what would have been a big HR.
